Ioanna Avraam

  • Principal Dancer at the Vienna State Ballet, Cypriot-born Ioanna Avraam is a celebrated figure in the world of ballet. She began her training at the Nadina Loizidou Ballet School in Limassol before advancing her studies on scholarship at the Heinz-Bosl Stiftung Ballet Academy in Munich. Joining the Vienna State Ballet in 2008, Ioanna steadily rose through the ranks, achieving the prestigious position of Principal Dancer in 2022. This milestone marked her as the first Cypriot to attain such a distinguished title in one of the world’s leading ballet companies.

    Throughout her illustrious career, Ioanna has excelled in performing a diverse repertoire spanning classical, neoclassical, and contemporary styles. She is renowned for her masterful portrayals of iconic roles, including Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and Kitri in Don Quixote by Rudolf Nureyev, Tatiana in Eugen Onegin by John Cranko, and Giselle in Giselle by Elena Tschernischova. Her artistry also shines in works by esteemed choreographers such as George Balanchine, Kenneth MacMillan, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Christopher Wheeldon, John Neumeier, Roland Petit, Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, David Dawson, Jerome Robbins, Alexei Ratmansky, Heinz Spoerli, and many others.

    Ioanna's extraordinary contributions to ballet have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Artist ‘23 Award by the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, the Nemitsas Award in 2024 by the Nemitsas Foundation, and the Special Recognition ‘24 Helena Vaz da Silva European Award for Raising Public Awareness on Europe’s Cultural Heritage, presented by the National Centre for Culture in Portugal in collaboration with Europa Nostra.

    Beyond the stage, Ioanna is dedicated to education and mentorship. She earned her Postgraduate Teaching Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance in London in 2022 and regularly shares her expertise through teaching and coaching.

    In addition, she is a sought-after guest artist across Europe and beyond, continually inspiring and captivating audiences worldwide with her exceptional artistry and invaluable contributions to the world of ballet.

Louiza Avraam

  • Professional Dancer | Choreographer | Certified GYROKINESIS® Trainer

    Born and raised in Cyprus, Louiza Avraam is a distinguished professional dancer and choreographer with an extensive international career. Currently a member of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, she brings her artistry to the world's leading stages while simultaneously pursuing her passion for choreography.

    Louiza began her dance journey at Nadina Loizidou School of Ballet in Limassol and furthered her education at the prestigious Hamburg Ballet School – John Neumeier. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts from Codarts University, Rotterdam.

    Her illustrious career includes dancing with Gauthier Dance Company//Theaterhaus Stuttgart under Eric Gauthier, the Saarland State Theatre under Stijn Celis, and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam under Ed Wubbe. Louiza has collaborated with renowned choreographers, including Ohad Naharin, Hofesh Shechter, Jiří Kylián, Sharon Eyal, Marco Goecke, Sasha Waltz, Marcos Morau and Marie Chouinard among many others.

    Parallel to her performance career, Louiza has earned recognition for her choreographic works. Highlights include:  

    - "Hope Wanted” (2013), performed at Ernst Deutsch Theatre and featured at the Assemblée Internationale in Canada.  

    - "Looping Thoughts" (2016) and "Mind your Step" (2018), presented at the Saarland State Theatre's Substanz series.  

    - "Mires" (2020), created for Gauthier Dance Company's "Out of the Big Box" production.  

    - "In Praise of Johnny Appleseed" (2020), in collaboration with Boum Percussion, showcased at the International Music Competition "TROMP" in the Netherlands.  

    - "Shoot me pink" (2022), commissioned by Gauthier Dance Company and presented at the Waiblingen Dance Gala in Germany.  

    - "Unveiling Shadows" (2024), a duet performed with her sister, Ioanna Avraam.  

    - "Whispers of the Dreamers" (2024), premiered by Mannheim Academy of Dance as part of “Tanzkraftwerk, a production of the State Ballet of Karlsruhe. 

    Louiza’s work exemplifies a seamless blend of classical and contemporary influences, reflecting her commitment to innovation and artistic growth.
